Horror is subjective, so I'd avoid using the words "actual/real scares", that's probably why you got heat from this video. It seems like the type of horror you're into is more of "stress and tension" which is provided through game mechanics. Speedrunning Super Mario World for example, would provide you with that dread, tension, and stress but the game doesn't contain any horror content. I'm personally not into this as I always end up having fun (or getting frustrated) rather than being scared when the horror is mechanically driven. Because there is always an opposite feeling waiting, a feeling of relief and satisfaction whenever you overcome whatever tension the mechanics throw at you. It's like a rollercoaster ride, it's moreso a fun but tense, thrilling experience. The Souls games actually do this a little, albeit to a much lesser degree. (unless again, you speedrun or no death it)

Idk... I've loved DS1, 2 and 3. Got hypped for ER, but when I got to play it I've found it really bad for some reason... Couldn't play more than 10 hours I guess. I killed two bosses I believe, both fights we're pretty bad imo (one was a king(?) who had a jumping attack and the other was on a shore zone iirc). For some reason there was zero enjoyment for me at any given time playing this game.. I guess I've liked the way DS was before, with a set path to guide you through the zones instead of throwing you out in an open world environment. Idk, open world seems a little cheap for me.. I believe that when a good director thinks about a path for you to progress through a history there is a lot of work on how to unveil secrets, introduce zones and characters and all that stuff. That was magical in the original DS. Going back to the bonfire after exploring incredible places had some kind on magic on it... But with ER, for me, it felt empty. Idk, the game must be good.. But imo it's for sure weaker than DS1 and DS3, maybe toe to toe with DS2 (never played Demon Souls or Bloodbourne, so I don't know about those games... but I would bet BB is much better than ER too, at least for my taste)

I'm pretty surprised that Lara's voice actress, Camilla Luddington, never really did much in the acting world after this game (other than reprising her role in the third game of the trilogy). I thought she was pretty solid throughout.

This was surprisingly cathartic. The list of issues starting at 35:15 had me looking for threads of complaints constantly just checking if anybody else was as annoyed or confused as I was. In particular, NPC calls at bad times were so annoying I started regretting helping people. Also, the morality system felt incredibly shallow. Shuttling anything off the station isn't necessarily good if it brings the typhon to earth. I feel like people are reluctant to critique this game because overall it's a great game (and went through a long period of dev hell), but it's also deeply frustrating in so many ways.

23:25 8 years later and I'm now reviewing this as evidence to try and figure out how your Bloodstain can wind up down there, lol. It's of course not supposed to be able to happen normally. Bloodstains follow you on a ~10 second delay and you should normally die fast enough for one to not follow you to the bottom of a pit. This footage gives me a hypothesis, though. It probably has something to do with how your character slides down the side and awkwardly tries standing up before the game switches over to the "death from falling and landing on your feet" animation. I'm fairly certain that if either extreme happens, if you actually land fully on your feet or on your back (the usual/ normal outcomes), it should process the death a tad faster and avoid moving your bloodstain down there. It's an unfortunate glitch and you're far from the only person it's happened to! I'm thankful you documented it though. :)

I mean this in the most positive way possible, this is my favourite video to fall asleep to. I think it's like the 2nd video of Joe tht I watched and now I just love coming back to it when I need to calm my mind down when my brain is working against me at night. It just has the perfect length, the analysis, game and atmosphere hit the exact right balance of being calm and monotonous while still being interesting to distract you but not keep you any more awake. 6/10 will watch and fall asleep to this again.

I popped this video in the background and likely you very thoroguh, reasonable critique. I'll disagree on one thing, since you mentioned Trial of the Fools is your favorite part. That part for me was my *least* favorite. In my mind, this has a clear connection with Kingdom's Edge, and the bodies being thrown off the cliff is enticing that this is a new area to discover. So I fight and fight and fight and... nothing. No further progression. There's also a major issue that, if you are trying to play this purely on your own, I think it is very easy to miss key areas to go if you don't hit things or check things in the right way. Backtracking is one thing but with such a sprawling map and no certainty on whether you missed something in a given area (with no indicator on which area) or are needing a new area to discover. I found the later half of the game I would have missed out on without some sort of hints.

I agree with every one of these criticisms. One of the most annoying things in retrospect is how many times you can be out exploring some hidden area in the world, find an item with the special glow or whatever and it'll end up just being a mushroom or one of those flowers or some other shitty crafting item. I always can't help but think "in Dark Souls that would've been a sick sword" or whatever. But in Elden Ring, it could be something cool, but it could also be irrelevant garbage, and it's purely random. The same extends to the small dungeons. Like, whatever's in the chest at the end may as well be a dice roll, there's no rhyme or reason to it most of the time. The idea that on subsequent playthroughs anyone would ever remember where to find what equipment for their favourite build without a guide is ridiculous to me. I understand that there needed to be a reason to have these dungeons and the rewards in them, but the amount of repetition involved just makes the game world feel completely fake. After a point I was almost disappointed whenever I discovered one of these. I'd rather have had a few more legacy dungeons like Stormveil, or especially Raya Lucaria. It was peak Souls. It really was and I'm still not over it.

When I die I wish that Death comes to call me in her prettiest dress, the most beautiful woman that you'll ever see, I'll suddenly realise who she is to take her hand for I know it is my moment to transcend, she is not pranking or making any mistake, that's just how things are, she know life because she is Death. I think Dawn's death was the saddest of them all, colourless and cold. She was lost in reality, afraid of being a little inventive, because of what happened to her family. She couldn't find joy not even in her moment of liberation, while her relatives could at least channel their innocence and imagination to create an interpretation of being free facing the inevitable. Her and Edie's of course, poor lady.
